World Cup 2018: Germany hold crisis talks after Mexico loss

Germany star Thomas Muller has denied cliques in the squad were to blame for their shock loss to Mexico but admitted they could have been careless in preparation.

And goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has admitted the shell-shocked reigning champions have held crisis talks after the 1-0 defeat. The goalkeeper revealed the strongest words were said in the meetings but Muller insists the squad must not “tear ourselves apart” if they are to recover and make it out of the group.

At Wednesday’s press conference, Muller said: “We definitely won’t win the next two games if we tear ourselves apart.

“I wish the criticism would be a little less personal.

“The crux is that ease can’t be trained. Now we need to show patience and purpose.
