Marcelo Has Some Interesting Opinions On World Cup 2014 And VAR Decisions

There’s No Trauma About What Happened In 2014

Marcelo denied that there’s still a “trauma” about that devastating defeat four years ago against Germany. “If that was the case I wouldn’t have carried on playing football.” He asked that the passionate Brazilian fans send their “positive energy” to the team. Marcelo also spoke about Spain and Portugal’s match too, calling it a “very nice” battle with both teams wanting to win. “They are two of the favourites and they could go far in the competition.”

VAR No Excuse For Bad World Cup Start

Refereeing decisions were not the reason Brazil could only record a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in their World Cup bow, says captain Marcelo.

After Philippe Coutinho curled in a beauty to open the scoring for Tite’s men, Steven Zuber nodded in the equaliser for Switzerland in Sunday’s Group E meeting.

Brazil felt Zuber pushed Miranda to create space in the box before beating Alisson with his headed effort at Rostov Arena, but the goal survived a VAR review.

Gabriel Jesus also appealed for a penalty when he clashed with Manuel Akanji in the box, but Marcelo did not want to make excuses for Brazil’s inability to turn a dominant display into three points.

“Miranda’s move, I’m not going to talk about the referee, but he said they were checking,” Marcelo said to Globo.

“He did not want to look at the big screen, but it is not an excuse for the draw.”

For his part, Miranda also indicated Brazil ought to move on from the incident, with games against Costa Rica and Serbia to come.

“Maybe, if I had thrown myself, I could point to the push,” the centre-back said.

”There’s the video referee, they’ve seen it, but they did not think it was for that.

“The draw does not shake us, big teams have also started by losing. Our thinking is game by game.”

Brazillian Coach Has Completely Changed The Squd

Marcelo said that Brazil national coach, Tite, has “completely changed” the Brazil team after their humiliating 7-1 loss to Germany at the last World Cup.

“Tite has changed everything about the squad. Now it’s a lot easier and we understand his methods really well,” the left back said at a press conference today.

When Marcelo was asked about being captain tomorrow against Switzerland, and already being the vice captain at Real Madrid, he replied: “Of course I’d love to be Brazil’s captain tomorrow. Representing your country is something you dream about since you’re a child and to wear the armband on the day your country debuts at a World Cup is priceless. I try to help the squad with my effort and my happiness. I hope that my experience helps too.”

He also praised Tite for creating “a family” and that “everyone is together and focused on the objective of winning. We all bring our grain of happiness and effort.”
