Henrik Larsson admits the only regret of his glittering career was not staying at United.
The former Barcelona and Celtic striker moved to Old Trafford on a two-and-a-half month loan deal during the Swedish off-season back in 2007 and quickly established himself as a firm fans’ favourite.
Sir Alex Ferguson was keen on Larsson extending his stay but he made a vow to his family and parent club Helsinborg that he would return to his homeland.
“That’s the only regret in my career that I didn’t stay on,” he told ITV Sport’s World Cup podcast. “Not for the money, just by belonging to that great club. “Manchester United was fantastic – the way they took care of me and the family. At the time the family lived in Sweden, they travelled back and forth. I remember I had to go to a christening of my brother’s eldest son. They arranged a fantastic trip for me to be able to go there so it was a great club to be a part of even though it was a short time.
