Germany captain Manuel Neuer said that time has come for the German team to replicate their World Cup-winning form from the tournament in Brazil years ago. The defending champions started their World Cup campaign with a surprise 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico on Sunday.
“The responsibility is on the entire team. It’s clear that the experienced players should take the most of responsibility for such a result. We held another meeting today, we have repeatedly discussed the reasons for our defeat. It’s high time we showed the kind of play that made us the best four years ago in Brazil.”
He added that the team are now under big pressure after the disappointing defeat by Mexico, but are currently working out possible improvements and are looking forward to their next game against Sweden in Sochi on Saturday.
