#Match Report: Russia pummels Mo Salah’s Egypt to liven last 16 hopes

Summary

World Cup hosts fine form continued on Tuesday 19 June as they pummeled Egypt 3-1 in the second Group A match played at Saint Petersburg Stadium.

The hosts came from the break and pushed the game to their opponents.  Zobnin’s long-range effort was turned into the net by Fathi following pressure Dzyuba. Fathi’s own goal was the fifth being witness in this year’s competition.

12 minutes later Cheryshev beat  Egypt’s keeper after a cut back from Fernandes and the host took a 2-0 lead. Ilya Kutepov combined with Artem Dzyuba and the latter netted the third goal that saw his side increase the hopes on reaching the last 16.

Mohammed Salah pulled one back for Egypt from the penalty spot but it was too late for them to come back. The win means that Russia tops pool A with 6 points and eight goals.

Zobnin tries to send it back towards goal from 25 yards but he miscues his shot, Fathi tries to block it from reaching Dzyuba, but it heads straight into his own net.58′ GOAL Fernandes pulls back Cheryshev sidefoots it low into the net from and the hosts are two goals up. It is his third goal in the world cup.

62′ Goal! Russia 3, Egypt 0. Ilya Kutepov sets up Artem Dzyuba with a right footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner.73′ GOAL. After being fouled, Salah rises to take a penalty. He hits it high in the net after Akinfeev has no chance on it.
