Mixed reactions in Peru after narrow defeat to Denmark

Appearing in their first World Cup since 1982, Christian Cueva missed a penalty for Peru as they lost 1-0 to Denmark in Group C. The defeat generated mixed reaction in the South American country but they were mainly positive and optimistic.

Peru’s RPP radio network said the country’s return after a 36-year absence was “not at all encouraging. The Peruvian national team was superior to Denmark, but a lack of attention ended up leading them to defeat.  Describing the contest as a “duel of Peruvian enthusiasm versus Danish order”. On Twitter, La Republica newspaper said: “At the moment of the penalty kick, all Peruvians jumped and we generated a small tremor!”

It wouldn’t be the first time. Back In November 2017, celebrations activated a seismic alert when Peru scored against New Zealand.
