Firmino lauded

Former Brazil full-back Roberto Carlos has praised Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino ahead of their World Cup conquest.

Following a good season with Liverpool which saw them reach the Champions League final, Firmino earned a place in Tite’s 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

The Liverpool man is expected to fight it out with Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus for the starting central striking role for Brazil.

And 2002 World Cup winner Roberto Carlos believes Firmino adds “real quality” to the squad

“Roberto Firmino has got great technical ability,” he said (via Liverpool’s official website).

“He is fast and intelligent. He takes up good positions. He has real quality as well.”

Firmino scored in a 2-0 friendly win over Croatia at Anfield before providing an assist for Philippe Coutinho in Brazil’s 3-0 win against Austria as the Selecao prepare for the World Cup.

While Mohamed Salah received much of the plaudits for his performances last season, Firmino was equally as important for Liverpool.

Playing in a central attacking role alongside Salah and Sadio Mane, Firmino scored 27 goals in all competitions including 10 in the Champions League – one of three Liverpool players to reach that tally.

The Brazilian also contributed with 16 assists in all competitions, with only Salah directly contributing to more goals out of any player in the Premier League’s top six.
