Antoine Griezmann expects “big things” from Paul Pogba

Antoine Griezmann has admitted that France “are expecting big things” from Paul Pogba as they prepare to get their 2018 World Cup campaign up and running.

The Manchester United midfielder has been assured of his place in the side by boss Didier Deschamps, despite question marks over his form heading into the tournament.

Despite widespread criticism from some quarters last season, however, Pogba ended the 2017-18 Premier League campaign with six goals and 10 assists.

Griezmann is now hoping that his teammate can step up when France take on Australia this weekend, before two more group games against Peru and Denmark.

“We’re expecting big things from Paul – all his touches of brilliance and his long-range goals,” he told FIFA’s official website. “We’re expecting him to get the crowd on their feet. There isn’t a leader in the side, but when Paul talks, everyone listens.”

Former Man United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also tipped Pogba to shine in Russia over the next month.
