Who’s Winning the 2018 World Cup’s Best Young Player Award?

It’s surely an oversimplification to say goalscorers are born and not made. Do we just ignore the endless hours great goalscorers spend in training, honing their craft? Yet, it’s hard to argue that for some strikers, goalscoring seems innate. It certainly feels that way for Gabriel Jesus. “In the box he is a killer”, the words Pep Guardiola uses to describe Jesus’ gift for scoring goals.

Goals aside, Gabriel Jesus is also no stranger to success. He helped Brazil win its first ever Men’s Football Olympic Gold medal in 2016. He’s even lived out an entire year of competitive football — from October 2016 to October 2017 — without losing a match.

Just four years ago, Jesus was painting yellow and green stripes on the streets of Brazil  during the country’s hosting of the 2014 World Cup. Now he’ll be playing in the yellow and green of Brazil at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
