Wayne Rooney has agreed a three-year deal with DC United after being told he is not part of Marco Silva’s plans at Everton, according to reports.
A switch to the MLS side had been heavily mooted for the former Manchester United man.
However, with Silva replacing Sam Allardyce in the Everton dug-out, it appeared Rooney, 32, wanted to hear the new manager’s plans before taking a decision.
Rooney is now edging towards a DC United move having agreed a three-year deal in principle after he visited the US consulate in Belfast to process his visa.
Rooney returned to Everton last summer after 12 years at Old Trafford and enjoyed some positive moments.
