In a football match, the first yellow card is a warning. A second yellow card in the same game warrants a red card, seeing the player take an early shower.
During the 2006 World Cup, Croatia’s player Josip Šimunić received 3 yellow cards. The referee, Graham Poll, cautioned Šimunić, once, then followed with another yellow card following another foul but did not dish out a red card. Šimunić continued playing, committing another foul, receiving another yellow card, a third one.
