Iwobi: We will not let Nigeria down

Super Eagles attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi has assured Nigerians that despite the poor results recorded in the warm-up games prior to their departure for the World Cup, the team will not let the country down in Russia.

Speaking in an interview today, the Arsenal forward said that he understood the fears of Nigerians, but that they had learnt from their mistakes in the friendlies. “We have picked useful lessons from those friendlies. I can understand the fears of some Nigerians but we won’t let them down,” Iwobi said.

When quizzed on which of Nigeria’s group opponents he considers the most difficult to overcome, Iwobi responded, “Every match will be tough as all the teams have so much talent in their sides although the most obvious is Argentina. We’ve been drawn against Argentina in quite a few times in tournaments so they’d know all about us and we’d know all about them. But we can’t underestimate Iceland who did well in Euro 2016 and Croatia who always have a strong team in major tournaments.”
