The horrific terrorist attack which impacted Barcelona in August last year could potentially have claimed the life of Ivan Rakitic were it not for his wife, the midfielder has revealed.
On August 17, the city was targeted in a chilling attack that left 13 people dead and over 120 injured.
Rakitic has revealed that he would have been amongst the attacks at Las Ramblas and only a change of plan from his wife Raquel Mauri kept them away.
“I was very close during the recent terrorist attack in Barcelona,” he confessed. “I went into the city centre with my family and we were going to go to the place where the attack happened.
“That’s where I wanted to go but it was a nice day and my wife said that we should let the kids play in the park near our house. Thank God I listened to her.
“We were only three or four minutes away from going there. As soon as people heard about the attack, my friends and family immediately started to call me to check how we were.”
