Mikel backs England for World Cup glory

Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has thrown his weight behind the English national team and Nigeria to do well at the World Cup. The former Chelsea star is of the opinion that both sides have what it takes to challenge for the ultimate prize in Russia.

“I think the team England has this World Cup is the best in a long time. They’re a young team, with lots of energy, lots of power and they seem very united. It’s the same for Nigeria, so the chances are good for both sides,” Mikel said.

The midfielder whose Russian partner, Olga Diyachenko, and twin daughters, Ava and Mia, still reside in London despite leaving Chelsea after over ten years with the Blues, for Chinese Super League side, Tianjin Teda in 2017 stated that he missed being with family all the time.

“I miss my family so much when I’m away and every time I come back, there’s that heavy feeling, knowing that I’m going to have to go again,We make it work. But the love and the feeling I have for London and the family life we have here never leaves me,” Mikel added.
