Ander Herrera is ready to turn down the chance to return to Athletic Bilbao.
The Manchester United midfielder has one year left on contract and is a target for a number of European sides.
The 28-year-old is happy at Old Trafford and wants to stay but knows he faces another fight for a place as United have added Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and want to bring another midfielder too.
Herrera will be free to talk to foreign clubs from January and can afford to bide his time over a decision as he sees how next season pans out.
He is interested in a return to Spain and has been considered by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in recent years.
But Herrera will try and make a final impact at United.
