Southampton interested in Barcelona forward

Mark Hughes is very keen to bring Barcelona forward Paco Alcácer to Southampton this transfer window, the Mirror reports.  Southampton had a tough 2017/18 Premier League season. They finished 17th in the league and avoided relegation by just three points. A large reason for Southampton struggling last season was due to their lack of goals.

Alcácer began his career with Spanish side Valencia. During his time at Valencia Alcácer would be loaned to fellow Spanish side Getafe where he played 24 games and scored four goals. The Spaniard would eventually be given his chance to shine for his parent club Valencia and he did not disappoint.

In 124 appearances in all competitions for Valencia Alcácer scored 43 and assisted 17, a very solid goalscoring record. This solid record earned Alcácer a move to FC Barcelona in August of 2016  for a fee in the region of £27 million. Alcácer has never managed to become a regular starter for Barca, which is hardly surprising given Luis Suarez is his competition.

However, Alcácer has proven to be a very useful backup striker. In 50 appearances, most of which have been as a sub, Alcácer has scored 15 and assisted eight. But now the Spaniard is looking for a move away from Barca and Southampton are currently the most interested club.
