Football chiefs have today confirmed there will be a winter break in the Premier League from 2020.
Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn is confident that it will give future England teams a better chance in major tournaments as super powers Spain and Germany already have a mid-season break.
Premier League bosses and the FA came to the agreement which has been rubber stamped on Friday to help the England team, it will come in during January 2020 and it is already part of the new TV deal.
Glenn has also pledged that the staggered winter break – with ten teams taking it in turns to get a rest over the course of two weekends – will not mean that FA Cup third round replays are scrapped.
And Premier League clubs have also promised not to use the break to go away on lucrative money-spinning mid-season tours.
