5 teenagers playing in the FIFA World Cup

The 2018 World Cup in Russia commences in a week and a number of top professional footballers will look to displays their skills on the biggest showcase event in the world.

All the 23-man squads of the nations participating at the World Cup have been announced and there are some exciting young prospects in the mix. However, interestingly this is the first time since 1990 that no player younger than 19-years-old has been selected by any of the final 32 teams.

Here we take a look at the seven teenagers on show at the FIFA World Cup:

#5 Daniel Arzani

Iranian born Australian winger, Daniel Arzani will be the youngest player at this year’s World Cup. At 19 years, the teenager is only 15 days younger than Mbappe and is widely considered to be a promising prospect for the Socceroos.

#4 Francis Uzoho

England v Nigeria -International Friendly

The fourth youngest player in this year’s World Cup is Nigeria’s goalkeeper Francis Uzoho. The young goalkeeper plies his trade for Spanish La Liga side Deportivo de La Coruna and even made two appearances in the league this season and could be the man between the sticks for the Super Eagles.

#3 Achraf Hakimi

Morocco v Slovakia - International Friendly match

19-year-old,  Spanish born Moroccan Achraf Hakimi is the third youngest player at the World Cup this year. The Moroccan plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid, and this year became the first Arab player ever to be part of a side that won the UEFA Champions League trophy.

#2 Moussa Wague

Senegal qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with a 2-0 win in South Africa on the 5th match day of Group D in the African qualifiers. In doing so, Moussa Wague is the first AS Eupen player in history to qualify for a FIFA World Cup.
