Super Falcons inch closer to Ghana 2018 qualification

The Super Falcons are on course for qualification to the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) following a 1-0 away win against Gambia in the first leg of their final qualifying round. Amarachi Okonkwo’s 19th minute strike from nearly 25 yards beat the Gambian goalkeeper and sealed the win at the Independence Stadium, Bakau on Wednesday. The Falcons had several opportunities to extend the lead, but the scoreline remained unchanged in regulation. The return leg comes up on Monday, June 11 in Lagos with the winner over the two legs qualifying for the 2018 AWCON in Ghana.

If they qualify, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will be going to Ghana as the reigning African champions having won the last edition of this competition.
