A partial ankle ligament tear sustained on the eve of the tournament dashed Marco Reus’ hopes of playing in the Brazil World four years ago. A pubic bone injury denied Reus a place at UEFA EURO 2016, before a knee ligament tear forced him to miss more than half of the 2017/18 campaign. He returned in February, though, scoring seven goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances, and made his first Germany appearance since 29 March 2016 in the 2-1 loss to Austria in a friendly last weekend.
“I’m delighted to be here, It’s every footballer’s dream to play at a World Cup, but the tournament is long. Every player will be needed. Hopefully I’ll get my chance to play. I want to do my bit to help the team,”Reus Said.
Germany will be looking to win a record equalling fifth World Cup title in Russia.
