Stephan Lichtsteiner Joins Arsenal; Club Confirms

Arsenal have identified free agents as their go-to strategy and their first signing is Switzerland defender Stephan Lichtsteiner. The 34-year-old will join the club on a free transfer when his contract with Serie A champions Juventus expires this month.

“Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to our squad,” new head coach Unai Emery said. “He’s a player with great quality with a very positive and determined attitude. Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”

The right-back will be captaining Switzerland at the World Cup in Russia and he told the club’s media team that his goal was to bring the Gunners back into the Champions League fold.

“There is a project to come back into the Chmpions League,” Lichtsteiner said. “I think it’s hard to see a club like Arsenal not playing in the Champions League.”
