Fernando Hierro to head Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid captain Fernando Hierro has been speculated to be on the verge of replacing  Zinedine Zidane as head coach for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are currently on the lookout for a new head coach following Zidane’s departure.

Germany manager Joachim Low, meanwhile, has ruled himself out of the running for the position.

According to Diario AS, Hierro, who represented the capital giants between 1989 and 2003, is on the club’s shortlist.

The 50-year-old acted as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu between 2014 and 2015, and also has managerial experience, having led Real Oviedo during the 2016-17 season.

Hierro won five La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Champions League crowns during his time as a player at Real Madrid.
