Marco Reus; Germany’s secret weapon.

That Marco Reus has never been to any World Cup  is a travesty in itself. The Multi talented Borussia Dortmund forward has been injured in almost every World Cup year since making his breakthrough into the Germany national team. Reus will finally have his chance at World glory after he was named in the final German squad heading to Russia. So what does he bring to the team?

Vesratility

Reus may have spent most of his career on the wing or as an attacking midfielder, but with Michy Batshuayi’s recent injury depriving Dortmund of an out-and-out striker, he has stepped up to the plate to show he can score as well as he can make goals. He also played up front when he lifted his first major trophy – the 2017 DFB Cup – partnering Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 2-1 over Frankfurt.

Leadership qualities

At 29 years of age, Marco Reus returned from an 8 month injury lay off to captain Borussia Dortmund following the injury of club captain Marcel Schmelzer. Dortmund are one of the biggest clubs in Germany and for Reus to be handed this role shows his leadership qualities. Germany may not be lacking in leaders but the inclusion of Reus only adds to that number.

Goals

Reus has nine goals in 30 appearances for the National team. considering he rarely plays for the team due to his re-occurring injuries the number is a healthy one. His overall quality on the ball will ensure he adds to that tally in Russia.
