European clubs sleeping giants

Hamburg

The German outfit are  a long, long way off where they used to be and could still be. Not even a shadow of the great Hamburg sides of the 1970’s and 1980’s, during which time the club won 3 Bundesliga’s, 2 DFB-Pokal’s and one European Cup. To compound their misery, they were relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in their history last season.

AC Milan

Milan has won a joint record three Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup, seven European Cup/Champions League titles (Italian record), the UEFA Super Cup a joint record five times and the Cup Winners’ Cup twice. From having players such as Ronaldinho and Kaka, the Italian giants now rarely feature in the Champions league. They finished sixth in Serie A last season.

Aston Villa

The club has won seven league titles, seven FA Cups, five league cups and one European Cup. They were relegated from the premier League in 2017 and their bid for immediate promotion was halted by a determined Fulham side who beat them in the promotion playoffs a week ago.
