Cazorla returns home

Santiago Cazorla has rejoined his former club Villareal after being released by English side Arsenal.

The Spaniard has been on the sidelines since October 2016 after suffering almost a career-ending Achilles injury. He underwent a total of eight operations on that and a long-standing ankle problem. Villareal has offered Cazorla an opportunity to prove his fitness with reports suggesting he could even earn a permanent contract at the club if he shows his worth.

The 33-year-old started his professional career at the La Liga club in 2003, before featuring 228 times over two spells at the club. The Gunners signed the Spain international from Malaga for £10million in 2012 before playing 180 games – as he picked up two FA Cup winner’s medals.

Cazorla was released by Arsenal at the end of the season, and will become a Villarreal player for the third time.
