Birmingham City set to sign Middlesbrough winger Marvin Johnson

Middlesbrough winger Marvin Johnson has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Birmingham City.

Johnson left Oxford United to make the switch to the Riverside Stadium last summer, but just six starts and 11 substitute appearances were made in the Championship.

All but one of those came under Garry Monk – who now manages Blues – and according to the Birmingham Mail, the pair could work together at St Andrew’s next season.

After keeping Birmingham in the Championship, Monk is expected to be given the freedom to make changes to his first-team squad and a reunion with the 27-year-old would see the wideman return to the city of his birth.

Johnson spent the early parts of his career in the area, with time spent at non-league outfits Solihull Moors, Romulus, Kidderminster Harriers and Hednesford Town.
