Thursday 14th June will see football’s biggest event kickoff in Russia. The football carnivore will see 32 Nations battle it out in a bid to be crowned World Champions. Below we have compiled a list of long standing records that were made in past editions.

Most goals scored in one match by one team

Hungary vs El Salvador in 1982 produced a total of 10 goals with the latter contributing to 0 of the goals scored.

Largest deficit overcame in a match

In 1982 Colombia came from 3-0 down to draw 4-4 with the Soviet Union, while Uruguay in 2002 overcame the same scoreline to draw 3-3 with Senegal.

Fewest goals scored in a final

Italy and Brazil played out a stalemate in the 1994 final. Brazil went on to win via a penalty shoot out.

Most Goals scored in a tournament

The 1998 and 2014 edition both produce a record 171 goals.

Fewest goals scored in a tournament

The 1930 and 1934 editions produced an all time low tally of 70 goals.
