Why Leroy Sane was dropped for Germany’s 2018 World Cup squad

On Monday Germany have officially confirmed their 2018 World Cup squad.

The big news is that Man City’s Leroy Sane has been left out the squad.

Most had assumed that Man City star Sane would be in the German squad in Russia.

In the 2017-18 Premier League, Leroy Sane was one of only five players to reach both 10+ goals and 10+ assists.

Moreover, Sane hit those stats in fewer appearances and minutes played than any other player to achieve the feat.

Sane’s actual Premier League stats were 14 goals and 15 assists.

Sane also won the Premier League PFA Young Player of the Year award as Man City broke records as they won the league.

So why did Jogi Low not pick Sane?

Well, the first point to note is that Sane was omitted for Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt. That point has been stressed by German football expert Rafa Honingstein.
