Crystal Palace midfielder Chung-yong Lee has not been included in South Korea’s 23-man squad for the World Cup. The Eagles midfielder, who has represented his country in two previous World Cups did not play in the 3-1 friendly loss to Bosnia & Herzegovina on Friday after picking up a hip injury on Monday against Honduras.
A Korean FA official had earlier said that the injury Lee suffered after colliding with Roman Castillo was not serious enough to rule him out of the tournament in Russia. But the midfielder’s name was among those cut from the preliminary squad as coach Shin Tae-Yong named his final 23-man squad.
Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min and midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng, who left Swansea City following their relegation from the Premier League, headline South Korea’s squad.
