Toshack on Bale: It’s very sad that he still can’t speak Spanish

Former coach of Real Madrid, Deportivo la Coruna and Real Sociedad, John Toshack has complained about compatriot Gareth Bale’s negligence in not learning Spanish, despite living in Madrid for a number of years.

For Toshack, it shows a lack of effort and respect on Bale’s part.

“He is a different player from his teammates,” Toshack said on the El Larguero programme on Cadena SER.

“He does’t like to speak to the press, and it’s very sad that with all the time he has been in Spain, he doesn’t know how to speak the language.

“If you are going to play in another country, at least you have the obligation to try.

“People will always think better of you if you make the effort.”

He also commented on Bale’s overhead kick from the Champions League final, calling it “a Playstation goal.”
