Arsene Wenger has claimed that he tried to sign Messi, Pique and Fabregas at the same time in 2003 but ended up with only Fabregas who became club captain at one time.
‘We didn’t sign Pique because of Nike who wanted him to go to Manchester United. For Messi, Barcelona didn’t want to lose him and they stopped the possibility of a transfer very early.’
Wenger, who left Arsenal at the end of last season after 22 years says that he cannot regret what happened because Fabregas was a great signing. ‘We got a gem there in Cesc. A football brain.’
