Sergei Semak returns home

Zenit St Petersburg has settled on Sergei Semak as the club’s new manager.

This comes after former manager Roberto Mancini left his role with Zenit to become the new boss of Italy but the Russian giants have already moved to secure a replacement.

This season, Semak guided FC Ufa to a sixth-placed finish in the top flight but the 42-year-old has now agreed to return to familiar surroundings.

Semak spent the final three years of his playing career at the Krestovsky Stadium before then spending three years on the backroom staff at the club.

The former midfielder has also acted as the assistant manager with Russia between 2014 and 2016.
