Liverpool: Merseyside Police To Investigate Death Threats Made To Loris Karius In Wake Of Champions League Final

Merseyside Police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the droves of moronic death threats sent to Loris Karius in the wake of Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

The German ‘keeper was left distraught after the 3-1 loss in which he made two significant errors, which sparked the absolute worst sub-sect of football fandom – the hard-line virtual ultras – into action…

In a statement, Merseyside Police said that they take this kind of hateful nonsense “extremely seriously” and that all offences logged will be followed up:

Officers are aware of a number of comments and threats made via social media.

Merseyside Police would like to remind social media users than any offences including malicious communications and threatening behaviour will be investigated.

Unfortunately, this is what transpires when your ‘support’ for any given team is allowed to form at a distance and in a vacuum, with the only connection being through a television screen and social media. You’re not ‘in’ and you’re not ‘of’ the club. Your support is a facade, a petulant pastiche.

This kind of extremist reaction, more common than ever before, is thought by the fan in question to be a by-product of their ‘passion’ when in fact no true fan would ever contemplate such idiocy.
