Liverpool held talks to sign new goalkeeper before Champions League final

In the aftermath of Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, it has become clear that Jurgen Klopp’s side need a new goalkeeper.

Loris Karius committed two horrendous blunders in the Kiev final that will likely blight his career and it is questionable whether the German goalkeeper will ever play for Liverpool again.

The English press link Liverpool with moves for two of the best goalkeepers in Europe on Monday morning.

Both Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid and Alisson of Roma are linked with Liverpool.

Either keeper would cost around the 100 million pound mark and the Merseyside giants would face competition from some of the best sides in Europe.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian press is reporting that Liverpool held negotiations for Zorya’s 19-year-old goalkeeper Andriy Lunin before the Champions League final.

This has been confirmed by Rafailov himself, who admitted: “Indeed, we met with representatives of two English clubs, but I would not like to advertise their names yet.”

When pushed on interest from Inter Milan and Napoli, Rafailov added: “Yes, they also have an interest, and the Neapolitans have advanced the most in the negotiations at the moment.”

Napoli are keen on a first choice goalkeeper having lost ex-Liverpool star Pepe Reina to AC Milan.

Inter Milan and Everton seem covered for high class goalkeepers, with Samir Handanovic and Jordan Pickford respectively.

Meanwhile, most Liverpool fans are now eager for a complete change in the goalkeeping department, to buy two new custodians and even replace their goalkeeping coach.
