Jasper Cillessen won’t be going to Russia just because his nation failed to qualify. The Netherlands had a qualification campaign to forget. They lost to to Bulgaria and France (twice) and drew to Sweden, meaning they finished third in their group, ensuring they will not be a part of Russia 2018.
Cillessen appeared in almost all of Netherlands’ qualifiers which was about all the game time he got all season since he was the second choice to Marc-Andre ter Stegen at Barcelona.
Cillessen played just 1 La Liga game and 1 Champions League tie and was only frequently used by Valverde in the Copa del Rey where he made 9 appearances.
