Former Manchester United is scheduled to undergo a Medical with the Washington DC united later this week as he edges closer to a move away from the Premier League.
The Everton striker has entirely spent his football career in English top flight winning every trophy available to him and leaving United as the club’s all-time leading scorer.
However, having been in and out of the team it was understood that he was close to sealing a move to the MLS.
Following the removal of Sam Allardyce, it has delayed Rooney as he has to wait and see the new manager.
The two clubs are yet to agree a fee for the 32-year-old, while personal terms are also still to be discussed, but Rooney’s trip to Washington is an indication that he is keen on the move.
Speculations are that Marco Silva may replace Big Sam as Everton manager, although club owner Farhad Moshiri is thought to be eager to get Rooney off the wage bill regardless.
