The world of football should be thankful that Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother backed out of her plans to abort the Portuguese superstar just over 33 years ago.
As Cristiano Ronaldo prepares for the Champions League final on Saturday against Liverpool in Kiev and the World Cup, his mother has been speaking at a book launch in Sao Paulo.
The book is titled “Mãe coragem” – “Mother’s courage” and Dolores Aveiro reveals that she tried to abort Cristiano Ronaldo during her pregnancy.
Dolores Aveiro said: “I already had three children, I tried to have an abortion and I could not. Thankfully, because Cristiano was the star that brightened my life. I want to tell women not to do that. Let them think and fight!”
Dolores Aveiro opened the event in Sao Paulo, saying: “The most beautiful thing we have is our children.”
According to reports in Brazil, many fans of Cristiano Ronaldo turned up to the book launch where she received everyone and signed autographs.
Dolores Aveiro is clearly also a fan of Brazil, she added: “It’s a land I’ve always liked. They welcomed me with open arms.”
Besides the book launch, Dolores Aveiro is set to open a Portuguese restaurant in June, in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul.
