We wont risk to play at Bukhungu, Gor Mahia sides with FKF

Philemon Otieno (30) has been called to the national team.

Gor Mahia FC will not risk their lives to play the Mashemeji Derby at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County, this according to Gor treasurer Sally Bolo.

AFC Leopards and KPL have maintained the derby is on while Gor Mahia has been silent on the issue but later on Monday allowed their player to join the national team camp.

Bolo says that Bukhungu cannot host the derby since there are no stands in the terraces area. Bolo believes that with Kasarani and Nyayo unavailable, Afraha would be a better option.

“We will not risk the lives of our players and fans to attend a homecoming event in the name of a Derby. Bukhungu does not have the capacity to host both of us. You can imagine there are no stands in terraces and you cannot control a crowd which is already on its feet,” Bolo is Quoted by Goal.com

“At least Nakuru, Nyayo and Kasarani stadia fans are seated in the stadium and the police officers are in between separating the two sets of fans. Therefore, for these reasons Bukhungu Stadium should not host the derby simply because of the lives of football lovers matters!” Bolo added.

The match is to be played on Saturday 26 May.
