Manchester City set to raid Leicester City for star winger

According to the Manchester Evening News, Premier League winners Manchester City are poised to make Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez their first signing of the summer.

The Mahrez to Manchester City link is not a new one as it was well documented in this past January transfer window that City wished to pry the Algerian away from the King Power Stadium.

However, given the importance of Mahrez to the Foxes, they were not willing to let such a key player leave in the middle of the season for a small fee.

Instead, Leicester’s proposed valuation of Mahrez was said to be in the region of £95 million. A price tag that was a bit steep even for today’s ridiculously inflated transfer market.

This hefty price tag resulted in Manchester City backing down from the deal. Subsequently, Mahrez would go absent without leave in January and was fined two weeks wages.

Mahrez would eventually earn his way back into the starting eleven and finish this past season on 12 goals and 11 assists in 36 league games.
