With domestic campaigns coming to a close across Europe, we take a look at who has qualified for the Champions League group stages next season.
Liverpool and Real Madrid will vie for Champions League glory on Saturday, with Jurgen Klopp’s men looking to end the Spanish’s sides two-year stranglehold on the competition.
Real have won the tournament a record 12 times, while Liverpool could move above Bayern Munich and Barcelona (both five) with victory in Kiev
Both clubs have already qualified for next season’s Champions League courtesy of their domestic finishes, though the winners will also secure a place in Pot 1.
So who else will be taking part in Europe’s premier competition next season?
A change to the system means the top-four clubs from the four top-ranked associations – Spain, Germany, England and Italy – qualify for the group stage automatically.
With Liverpool and Real already in next season’s groups, the spot given to the Champions League holders has passed down to the champions of the 11th-ranked association – Czech Republic side Viktoria Plzen.
Meanwhile, the Europa League holders also qualify automatically for the groups, but with Atletico Madrid picking up that trophy last week, that berth is handed to the third-placed team in the association ranked fifth – French side Lyon.
The final six spots will be decided via qualifying, with league winners PSV, Young Boys and Red Bull Salzburg among those set to feature.
Domestic champions Celtic (Scotland), The New Saints (Wales), Crusaders (Northern Ireland) and Cork City (Republic of Ireland) are all in the first qualifying round.
