Black Panther WINS Maximum Nominations at MTV

Black Panther, the pathbreaking superhero film that emerged as one of the highest-grossing motion pictures of all time earlier this year has bagged maximum nominations for the MTV Movie and TV Awards.

The superhero flick about the fictional kingdom of Wakanda leads the race with nominations across seven categories. It has also been nominated for the Best Movie category.

Black Panther is closely followed by Stranger Things which has nominations across six categories. For the uninitiated, Stranger Things is a Netflix series about supernatural occurrences in a fictional town in Indiana.

The MTV Movie and TV Awards are considered different from the Oscars and Emmys as they celebrate pop culture moments and pride themselves on being less stuffy.

The awards have fun categories such as “Best Kiss” and “Most Frightened Performance”. Another interesting thing about these awards this year is that like last year, the MTV prizes will be gender neutral with no separate competitions for male and female..

The winners will be decided by  public voting and declared on June 18. Comedian Tiffany Haddish will serve as the host of the MTV Movie and TV Award.
