A-League Referee Jared Gillett Wears Mic During Match To Demonstrate Exactly How Hectic Things Can Get For Officials (Video)

In his final game as an A-League referee, Jarred Gillet wore a mic to afford fans a window into what it’s like to officiate a typical league game.

Gillett, who is due to move to the Championship next season, took charge of Saturday’s game between Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar, which the former won 2-1.

The audio from both him and his assistants was recorded, demonstrating just how hectic the chatter can get mid-match, especially when split-second decisions are required…

Fairly interesting, though we don’t think the on-field chat would have been quite so respectful had the players not known Gillett was wearing a wire. Not a single swarmed official in sight.

Still, we’d love to see the same thing attempted again in the modern-day Premier League, with Mike Dean the clear and obvious candidate of choice.
