Calls to pass the two thirds Gender Bill in Parliament dominated the International Women’s Day celebration across the country. Women leaders from across the political divide said the day would only be meaningful in Kenya after leaders honour the Constitution by passing the Bill that has stalled in the National Assembly.

Speaking at Pumwani Maternity hospital, On Friday, March 8, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s wife Primrose Mbuvi appealed to legislators to consider fast tracking conformation to the supreme law through passing of the Bill. She observed the Bill would enhance women’s representation in key decision-making institutions.

“I urge my female counterparts in Parliament not to relent in pushing for adoption the Bill as required by the Constitution. Male legislators should view this as a progressive law and help to get it adopted,” she explained.

Mbuvi who went to celebrate with mothers at Pumwani where she was born, said MPs should put aside their political differences and support the Bill when it would be reintroduced in the legislative house.
