Stop threatening to arrest HELB defaulters, Khalwale tell CS Mohammed

Vocal regislator Boni Khalwale is now urging Education cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed to withdraw the threat to arrest HELB defaulters.

While speaking during an interview in one of the local TV station, Khalwale condemned the move saying it was inappropriate.

He further added saying that most youths were unemployed and arresting them for unpaid HELB loans should be the last thing the government should think of instead the government to ensure that youths get jobs before they are asked to pay back their loans from the government.

“I want to tell Education CS Amina Mohamed to stop experimenting with the lives of our youth. They cannot raise universities’ fees by 200%. It is going to result in 99% of the children of the poor dropping out of university,” he said.

The call to arrest the defaulters has continued to face massive criticism from different factions. Senator Johnson Sakaja of Nairobi and his Makueni Counterpart Mutula Kilonzo Junior are among those who have opposed the idea.
