There was an uproar on Monday afternoon after CAF released the groups for this year’s Confederations cup. Gor Mahia, the only East African side still in the competition will have to square it out with Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek, NA Hussein Dey of Algeria and Atletico Petroleos of Angola, in what is arguably the toughest pool in the competition.
Gor edged out Cameroonian side New Stars, after playing to a goalless draw on Sunday. They had won the first leg 2-1 and needed a draw of any kind to qualify. They had to do this in a tougher way after CAF suspended first choice defensive pair of Captain Haron Shakava and Joash Onyango.
But fans are not happy with the pool they have landed in. CAF has not done itself any good after naming three Morocco sides in Pool A. The same happened in Pool B and C where Zambian sides ZESCO and Nkana and Tunisian teams CS Faxien and E.S.S find themselves in the same pools.
The groups have been settled, who are you backing to reach the next round? #TotalCAFCC pic.twitter.com/eBoCHrBBjy

Nobody can explain CAF’s criteria. Were these groups fixed or is it just a coincidence? It has to be a very rare coincidence then.
Here is what fans are saying:
Hello @CAF_Online Why should we have teams from the same Country placed in the same group? This doesn’t add up.

Something is not quite right with GROUP A

How does CAF make these draws? Group A has three teams from same country, both group B and C have two teams each from same country. That is not making any sense.
