Its been quite a political environment in Kenya since the president addressed some issues while in Mombasa yesterday.
Currently its been reported that Bahati member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri who led protesters to demonstrate against President Uhuru Kenyatta has been arrested in Nakuru.
Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri was displeased about President Uhuru Kenyatta verbal attack on Mt Kenya leaders demanding for the development of the region.
The president referred to those MPs agitating for development projects as “washenzi” who should let him be.
“Wale wanatapatapa huko na siasa duni, sisi tumesema kwamba maendeleo haitakua inapatikana kwa sababu kiongozi ametoka pahali fulani. (Those moving around with cheap politics, we have decided that development will no longer be distributed according to region the President is from).”
In protest, the legislator led demonstrations on the streets of Nakuru in a t-shirt written “Mimii ni mshenzi. Je wewe mwana Kenya?”
Ngunjiri was echoing Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s sentiments. Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and his Gatundu South counterpart Moses Kuria are some of the legislators accusing the head of state of neglecting the region that overwhelmingly voted for him both in 2013 and 2017.
A section of Mount Kenya MPs have however demanded respect for president Kenyatta.Mt Kenya MPs are in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and are appreciative of the work done for the region since he took power, a Mt Kenya leadership caucus has said.
In a statement signed by nominated MP Cecily Mbarire, the leaders take note of the ongoing exchange between a number of MPs and the President over the development of the region.
