Rashford to leave Manchester United

As we rapidly approach the January transfer window, the rumour mill begins to flex its muscles, with the latest dose of speculation linking Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford with a surprise switch to Italy.

Last weekend a rejuvenated Rashford ended a frustrating run of eight matches without a goal for club and country after he bagged Man Utd’s fourth and final goal in their 4-1 demolition of Fulham, a result which moved Jose Mourinho’s men up to sixth in the Premier League table.

However, the 21-year-old could now only have a handful of matches left at the Red Devils, if reports are to be believed.

Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport states that Serie A side AC Milan have targeted Rashford following the collapse of the Zlatan Ibrahimovic transfer, after the Swede failed to agree terms, while Liverpool’s Divock Origi and Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella are also on Gennaro Gattuso’s radar.

Rashford has recently been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Everton, although United would no doubt swat away any advances for the young Englishman.

He has an underwhelming return of three top-flight goals to his name this season, and a failure to nail down a concrete place in Jose Mourinho’s starting-11 – he’s only played the full 90 minutes once this term in the Premier League – could see his head turned in the New Year.

Rashford, who has been at United since the age of seven, last signed a deal back in 2016 which runs up to the summer of 2020, although United have the option of a year’s extension.
