Mohamed Salah celebrates his award on social media, Modric criticizes both Ronaldo and Messi declining to attend award ceremony

Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah named BBC African Footballer of the Year for two consecutive years, celebrating his award on Twitter. What he wrote means that he won this award in both 2017 and 2018.

In the last season, the Premier League’s player of the year scored 44 goals in 52 games for Liverpool. “It’s a great feeling to win again. I’m happy and I would like to win it also next year!” said Salah. When playing for the Egypt national football team, scoring two goals at this year’s World Cup took his country to the tournament for the first time since 1990.

Luka Modric ended dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, winning the 2018 Ballon d’Or and becoming the first player other than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to claim the award in more than a decade.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi didn’t attend the Best FIFA Football Awards and Ballon d’Or ceremonies this year. Luka Modric has hit out at both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on not attending both two ceremonies mentioned earlier in an exclusive interview with Croatian media Sportske novosti.

He thinks that Ronaldo and Messi liked showing up when they were winning the awards and their behaviour is unfair towards the other players, the fans, the game and even voters giving them the award for 10 tears in a row. However, he thinks that everyone acts as they please. Also, Modric promises that he will be a member of Real Madird until the end of the contract.
