Liverpool and Chelsea will face off in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul. The match pits together last season’s Champions League winners against the Europa League holders.
The venue has an iconic feel for the Reds as it is where they won their fifth European Cup in 2005 against AC Milan. Jurgen Klopp’s team warmed up for the match with an emphatic 4-1 win over Norwich on Friday.
Liverpool will, however, be without first-choice goalkeeper and last season’s Golen glove winner Allison Becker who injured himself in the first half against Norwich.
Chelsea, on the other hand, kicked off their Premier League campaign on the worst possible note after going down 4-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Blues could be without World Cup-winning midfielder Ngolo Kante who was injured in the defeat to the Red Devils.
It will be the first time that two English teams face each other in the Super Cup and will be officiated by Stephanie Frappart. The French referee is the first woman to officiate a major men’s European match.
Liverpool’s performance against Norwich was breathtaking at times but was a bit insecure defensively. Chelsea, on the other hand, might have conceded 4 at OldTrafford but looked very good going forward and hit the post twice.
