#HardshipAcademy: Uproar over the Pathetic state of Kwale Primary Schools

Kwale County has not once been on the limelight over the poor state of schools and Bumani Primary School is the latest to cause public outrage.

Following an expose by a local TV, angry Kenyans took to social media using the hashtag #HardshipAcademy to condemn the county leadership over the extreme and unholy inequality.

Pictures circulating online shows A mud-walled grass-thatched classroom. The structure is shared by class 4 and 5 pupils.

As if that isnt enough, the same school does not have latrines. The mudwalled pit latrines built many years back are almost caving in forcing the teachers and pupils to use nearby bushes and thickets while responding to nature calls.

Bumaini primary teachers as well seem to be teaching the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) on guesswork. The school only has 8 teachers with only 2 who are trained. According to the school’s Deputy Headteacher Ali Mrema, class 1 to class 4 pupils are taught by one untrained form four leaver who will only get knowledge of the system by reading the pupils books.

Elsewhere in the county in Kinango Primary school, classes are undertaken under the three main trees in the compound, and as the sun moves, so do they.
